I AM: BRAIN MACHINE INTERFACE

I am one of the first people to be implanted with a BMI which allows me to move my paralyzed arm and hand using the power of my thoughts. Researchers at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine have been working on strategies to give people control over their paralyzed hand muscles. With help from my orthotic, I am now able to grasp and transfer objects. I am now even able to write again for the first time since my accident. I am proud to be part of The Miami Project as a research participant.
