Our Scientific Director, W. Dalton Dietrich, Ph.D., sits down with a member of our faculty or one of our researchers to hear about the latest scientific efforts at The Miami Project. We talk to Katie Gant, Ph.D., a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery and Director of The Miami Project’s Education and Outreach Department. In this episode, we will learn more about The Miami Project’s education programs and the Open House Dr. Gant’s team hosts each year. She also describes how the outreach team plays an essential role in our clinical research programs, by handling all the requests for information from the spinal cord injury community, in addition to maintaining a research registry for people interested in participating in our clinical studies. We will also get a status update on the Christine Lynn Rehabilitation Institute and learn how The Miami Project’s clinical research programs will be integrated into that facility.
dr. Gant currently manages the Schwann cell clinical trials and serves as a co-investigator on numerous clinical studies. She also oversees the education and outreach programs at The Miami Project.
One of her primary goals is to encourage interactions between the spinal cord injury community, researchers, and clinicians to ensure that The Miami Project’s scientific efforts translate to meaningful improvements.
