The Miami Project’s 9th Annual Open House

Exercise lab at Lynn Rehabilitation Center

(April, 2024) On April 26th The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis will host their 9th Annual Open House. The annual event allows our friends in wheelchairs, their families, supporters and the general public a chance to visit our facilities, tour a few of our labs and hear from some of our leading researchers about some of the cutting edge research they are directing.

For the first time, our open house will include visits to both of our state-of-the-art research facilities that house our basic science and clinical research programs. Starting at the Lois Pope LIFE Center, home of The Miami Project’s basic science laboratories, visitors will get a chance to see key laboratory areas and interact with our researchers. The Open House will then transition to the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at UHealth/Jackson Memorial. Since opening in February of 2021, the Lynn Rehabilitation Center has quickly established itself as one of the country’s elite facilities for patients recovering from spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and other complex conditions. The bulk of The Miami Project’s clinical research programs are housed here to work in concert with those in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

In addition to showcasing both facilities, attendees will have a chance to hear about a few of our groundbreaking research initiatives. Those who will present some of their work include: W. Dalton Dietrich, Ph.D. Scientific Director, The Miami Project, Kinetic Concepts Distinguished Chair in Neurosurgery, Senior Associate Dean for Discovery Science, Co-Director, Institute for Neural Engineering, Professor, Neurological Surgery, Neurology, Biomedical Engineering and Cell Biology who will give a presentation titled, Miami Project Research News; Matia Milosevic, Ph.D., Director of Neuromotor Rehabilitation, The Miami Project and Assistant Professor, Departments of Neurological Surgery and Biomedical Engineering will discuss Close Loop Neuromodulation; Patrick Ganzer, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering and The Miami Project will share his work on Vagus nerve stimulation for Rehabilitation; Hassan A Ali, Ph.D., M.S.M., Associate Professor, Departments of Neurological Surgery, The Miami Project and Medicine will share about Combining microscopy, robotics, and machine learning to accelerate discovery of SCI therapeutics.
