PAIN

Many people with spinal cord injury experience long-lasting hurt that can be severe and debilitating. Miami Project researchers are examining the effects that neuropathic pain has on individuals’ daily lives.

Neurological mechanisms that cause and exacerbate neuropathic pain as well as psychosocial issues after spinal cord injury are a primary clinical research focus. As a complement to this work, basic researchers are developing cell transplantation therapies in combination with pharmacological treatments for the treatment of neuropathic pain.
