FACES OF PARALYSIS: JAZZMIN
Faces of Paralysis subject, Jazzmin, was diagnosed as a teenager with Neuromyelitis optica. The disorder occurs when immune system cells and antibodies attack the optic nerves and the spinal cord. The damage to her body left her paralyzed from the waist down. As part of her recovery process at The Miami Project, she has been participating in research training programs to improve outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injury. Programs include an overground suspended walking system and a cycling program using electrical stimulation. Hear more about her experiences in the video below.
